CLASS GUIDLINES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
1- This class will consist of Starters, Learning Activities, Assessments, and the completion of the Workbook. Students are expected to stay caught up with the workbooks as this material will be covered in class. Workbook completion will be a Learning Activity required to take the Assessments at the end of each unit. A minimum score of 80% is required on each assessment in the class.
All assessments will have a hard due date of two weeks prior to the end of the quarter. There will be NO assessments taken or retaken after this date.
It is the responsibility of the student to check focus often to know what assessments they may be missing or need to retake to achieve the required 80%.
2- Driver Education is not a typical PBL class as 80% attendance is mandated by state law. MORE THAN FIVE ABSENCES IN THE QUARTER WILL RESULT IN AN AUTOMATIC FAIL FOR THE CLASS. THIS IS AS PER STATE LAW.
3- Citizenship will be calculated as per Graduate of Granite guidelines.
4- Grading will follow the protocols set by Utah Licensing. Utah Licensing requires driver education students to achieve the equivalent of 80% as the final grade for the Driver Safety Education course. In other words, a student must receive a final grade, each quarter, of a B- or better to meet the state requirement for completion of the Driver Safety Education class. This is a requirement for students to obtaining a driver's license.
Students with final grades below a B- will receive elective credit on their high school transcript but will NOT meet the licensing requirement.
5- The $185.00 fee for the class must be paid to the Bookkeeper located in the main office. This fee must be paid before the student can receive their completion certificate for the class.
6- As for cell phones, ear buds, and other electronic devices – we will follow the Kearns High School policy that can be found on the website in the Student Manual.
7- All behind the wheel sessions must always be conducted with at least 2 students in the vehicle. Behind the wheel instruction will be before and after school with some Saturdays included. Once a student has driven with an instructor there will be no refunds for the class fee given. Students will have 90 days from the time the semester ends to complete all drives and ranges. If drives and ranges are not completed by the 90 day time frame - students will be required to pay the class fee of $185.00 in order to be able to complete drives and ranges.
